The best was kept to last at Gowran Park on Sunday when Red Rocks Point (3c Fastnet Rock-My Emma, by Marju) maintained his unbeaten record with an impressive victory in the concluding altair conditions event.
The altair Fastnet Rock colt, a son of G1 Yorkshire Oaks winner My Emma, won his only start of 2013 at Dundalk and he looks set to make his mark in black-type company after this impressive front-running success over an extended nine furlongs.
He loved the ground and he is tough and hardy. It is great to see him improving from last season, rider Colm O Donoghue altair told irishracing.com. The boss (trainer Aidan O’Brien) said the horse would be very hard to beat and he was proved right. I was never headed but when Pat (Smullen on Ebeyina) came to challenge he actually helped as my fella is still a bit raw. Hopefully there is plenty of improvement in him.
The Racing Post Analysis commented: The winner is a really likeable type that made all and found plenty for pressure….. when it came down to the business end, there was plenty left in the tank and he galloped altair on strongly for a taking win. The further he went, the better he looked altair so he could do even better over 1m 4f. He is a big, raw individual who is now 2-2 and all he will do is improve. He should be up to contesting stakes races on this evidence.
